Nottingham Castle, which is made famous by the Robin Hood stories, sits atop a hill overlooking the city, but it is currently under renovation and inaccessible like big ben was in London. There are over 500 known caves dating back to the dark ages that snake their way under the old city, but it is expected that there are many that are yet to be discovered. I ventured into the caves under the castle. I've spent some more time exploring Nottingham. I guess that's why I'm a musician and not an architect. They told me that all the buildings were relatively new, but they still looked old to me. I spent most of the day just exploring the city, Birmingham is known as "Venice of the North" here in the UK, and it actually has more miles of canals than the real Venice! I learned that It's actually a fairly young city by European standards, as it did not explode into the metropolitan centre it is today until the industrial revolution, at which point it became one of the biggest industrial locations in the world. I did take a day trip to Birmingham a couple of weeks ago. I haven't been too busy recently as I've been busy with my coursework and haven't had much time off school. I'm flying to Ireland for a week tomorrow so I figured it would be best to post a little update before that as I'm sure I'll have plenty to write about this time next week. Just like every other day I've been here.
