In any of these DC Animated movies, it’s easy to bet that Batman will have a key role. Shazam’s child alter-ego Billy Batson hero worships Vic Stone the high school football star before he becomes Cyborg the cybernetic terror. The changeup has little effect on the whole, and in fact allows a surprisingly heartfelt bond between Shazam and Cyborg. Those who have read the comic will note that Aquaman was replaced by Shazam - a choice that can be explained by this movie’s post-credit teaser scene. The cast includes Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Shazam, Flash, and Cyborg. If the long-rumored live-action Justice League movie is half as cohesive, thrilling, and fun as this animated flick, then it will be a rousing success. It delivers an origin story for DC’s greatest team of heroes that is packed with action and quite a bit of humorous banter. It features the Justice League coming together for the first time to take on Darkseid and his invading force of Parademons. Now, DC Animated is embracing the New 52 by adapting its flagship comic, Justice League: Origin by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee. Heroes were made a bit younger, costumes were re-designed, and origin stories were re-imagined. In 2011, DC Comics re-launched all of their comics in an initiative dubbed The New 52, which allowed them to refresh their brand.
